BDM 124 Stop Motion Animation Research

Different Styles of Stop Motion Animation

The team and I have researched several styles of stop motion animation:

Claymation:

Puppet Animation:

Cut Out animation:

Pixilation:

Object Animation:

Silhouette Animation:

And finally came across a style we really like the look of, cardboard stop motion. As seen in these examples

https://vimeo.com/25556244

We like the idea of having plain uncolored cardboard. As it is aesthetically pleasing and also a versatile and cheap resource, meaning we have a lot of creative freedom.

With this style we hope to make a cool stop motion animation.

Through the video there is a lot of dynamic background movement, where there a layers of background moving around to create convincing depth in a 2D medium, we want to do this for the sake of it even though we will be using 3D forms. This could end up being a pretty interesting visual.

We agree that to make the most of this we need to have a simple idea, so we can concentrate on the design, as this is pretty much the funnest part. So we are thinking of just having one or two characters.

We like the idea of having a apocalyptic street scene

We are thinking a cool main character could be a robot of sorts, as of yet we don't really know what it would be doing. We just like the visual dynamic...Decrepit robot in an abandon street.
